Shottesbrooke 1990 Bernesh Bray Fine Old Tawny Port
McLaren, Australia
The Shottesbrooke “Bernesh Bray” Fine Old Tawny It is called Bernesh Bray to
recognize the owner of Shottesbrooke, Nick Holmes family connection with this
part of Berkshire and the Shottesbrooke Church build in 1337.
This fine Tawny Port is a blend of ten vintages from 1990-1999 all grown on the same patch of 50 year old dry grown bush vine Grenache located on our McLaren Flat property. These vines are extremely low yielding, less than 1 tonne to the
acre.
The color is light golden-tawny. A mouthwatering bouquet, very intense and penetrating exhibiting plump raisins, caramel, cloves, nutmeg and racy acidity. The palate is layered with sweet raisins, figs, butterscotch, orange peel, almonds and exotic spices. It finishes with crisp refreshing acidity. A rich and voluptuous
wine that lingers long after each delicious sip. Serve with soft cheeses or a decadent dessert.

93Medium amber color. Spicy strawberry and raspberry on the nose, with exotic marzipan and peach liqueur notes adding complexity. Strikingly complex on the palate, offering notes of candied red berries, cola, cinnamon, maple syrup and orange marmalade. Plenty sweet (244 grams per liter of residual sugar), but surprisingly energetic, with a gently gripping finish that features a lingering note of candied red berries. Very impressive stuff. 93Lastly, the light ruby/garnet-colored non-vintage Tawny Port Bernesh Bray offers stunningly exuberant, flamboyant aromatics. Made from a blend of ten vintages of Grenache (1990-1999), and fortified with neutral grape spirit, it possesses that penetrating fig/raisin/nutty character along with sweet red and black fruit as well as a hint of marmalade. Sweet, but not cloying, it is another example of just how special these after dinner wines can be from Australia. Wine Advocate
